Tooth Whitening is an aesthetic procedure that can have your teeth looking their natural bright and white state in no time! There are a few different ways to accomplish this but at our facility we use the bleaching technique.
By non-invasively changing the colour of the tooth enamel we will have you feeling good about your smile in no time. You won’t be able to stop showing off your smile!
The procedure is only effective on natural tooth enamel and will have no effect on old fillings and crowns. For this reason you may choose to have those old fillings replaced with new whiter ones to match your newly transformed teeth.
Although tooth whitening will last you for a long time, it is not a permanent solution depending on your lifestyle. Most people will want to get it touched up every few years and if you smoke or drink coffee, tea, or wine, you may need it more often.
Tooth whitening is recommended as a way to combat the normal wear of your outer tooth layers, excessive fluoridation and even teeth staining that can be a result of medications such as tetracycline.
What happens at my visit?
We generally require two visits for our teeth whitening procedure. On your first visit you will get a mould made of your teeth. This clear plastic tray will serve as the whitening solution from now on. The second visit after your mould has been produced and we ensure that it fits you properly and make any necessary adjustments. We then provide you with care instructions so you will feel 100% confident to take care of the rest at home.
Some of our patients choose to wear the mould twice daily for 30 minutes, while others wear it overnight. Depending on how white you want your teeth and how much staining there is you can do this daily for up to two weeks.
Don’t worry if you feel more sensitivity during the process, that’s totally normal! It will subside after the whitening is complete.
